Residential Computer Support

Personal Computer & Laptop Support (Including Tablet Form Factor)

Most issues that arise with your personal computers are going to be tied to software glitches, driver issues, or a failed component. Many of these issues are recoverable. In the event that your machine ‘dead,’ there is at least still a chance to recover your hard drive and save your data.

Though technology is moving (ever so swiftly!) toward solid state thus making data recovery more difficult, it is still possible provided the controller has not failed.

Lots of folks anymore wonder if it is worth their time to buy a new computer or repair their old, and this is one of those $64,000 questions.

To illustrate the point, this page was created from an eight year old second-hand HP Elitebook 8560p that fulfills everything I need for a working business unit. It only required additional memory and an upgrade from a spindle to a solid state drive. All together, it cost me pennies by comparison of buying another one new. Believe it–Replacing a single component in your machine may breath another 3-5 years into it, and solid state drives continue to drop dramatically in price as time goes by.

Home Networking

Home Networking has become both simplified and complicated over the last decade with services like Nest and Alexa, smart light bulbs, smart fans, smart themostats, smart garage door openers, smart washer/dryers, even.

It can not be stated enough–if you do not have a router, you need to seriously consider getting one for the sake of your own security. Simply plugging any device into the internet through your modem is a severe security issue for your personal data.

Network issues are thoroughly investigated from end to end, including the cables that your (if applicable) cable contractor installed, all the way up to your computer. There’s a saying in the industry: “Did you check the cable?”

Printer Support

Printers come in all shapes, sizes, and purposes. Unfortunately for us the consumers, printers are designed more to act as “ink sales devices,” and have an overwhelming tendency to fail about a day after the warranty expires when speaking in terms of hardware.

Some issues can be resolved with a few components that can be replaced, but for most part this is not possible or worth the effort. My recommendation for printers is to invest in a solid laser printer. Is it more expensive up front? Yes. Is it going to last far longer and be more serviceable? Also yes.

Custom Computers

If you are in the market for a serious machine to do either serious gaming or serious work, TechPherson is more than happy to build your customer computer for you.

Cellular Device & Tablet Support

In a limited fashion, TechPherson offers cellular phone & tablet repair. Repairs are on a model by model basis, as anymore there is far too much of a risk of destroying the device in the process of salvaging it. This is to say, a look can be taken, but there exists a fair chance that you will be referred to someone more focused on this particular niche of the tech market, such as Erick Elbert who runs IFixa in downtown McPherson.

If you are in a pinch, and you have a tablet or a phone with a broken screen and are only concerned with getting the data, let’s take a look and see what can be done.
